The Max Pulse is solid state electronics and after over 7 years selling this device, we have yet to have a defective machine. Normally the issues with the device are almost always:
A. The Max Pulse finger Probe
B. The power cord or the USB Cord
C. The Software or the computer that the software is installed on.
If you are having trouble with your device, check the following.
Close the Software and Reopen: Make sure all the connections are tight and that the Max Pulse is switched on. Then close the software and reopen it. The Max Pulse software needed to be opened after the Max Pulse is connected and turned on, otherwise the software fails to detect the device, even if its switched on later.
Software Opens but Does Not Register Patient: If the software starts up, but does not register the heart beat after starting the software and putting on the finger probe the issue can be – 1) Max Pulse does not have power, see below. 2) Computer did not find the Max Pulse – Check USB as per below and open and close the software after you are sure the Max Pulse has power 3) Driver did not connect properly – Make sure the Max Pulse is connected and powered on, then close the software and re-open it. 4) The finger probe may be damaged, requiring you to purchase a new one if the machine is out of warranty.
Green Light: There should be a green light on the power switch on the box. If this is not on, make sure the Max Pulse is plugged in, and also make sure the power cord is firmly connected. Check another power outlet to make sure there is power. If you cannot get the green light on, there may be an issue with your Max Pulse and you should contact us.
Blue Light: There should be a blue light on the USB cable where it goes into the Max Pulse. If this is not on, check that the cord is firmly plugged in to the Max Pulse and the computer. If you cannot get this light to turn on, you should get a new cord. If the machine is not under warranty you can order a generic “USB to RS232 Cord”
Software: Is the software starting up correctly or is there an issue with the software? If you have an issue with the software, we recommend installing the latest version. Software issues almost never caused by a problem with the Max Pulse hardware. Be sure that your computer is running an up-to-date version of Windows 10 and that the computer itself has been checked for viruses and the hard drive is not overfull. When uninstalling the software, be sure to copy the Max Pulse directory into your documents folder. This will preserve your patient database and allow you to reload the records at a later date. Never uninstall the software without doing this first.
Failure to Initialize Serial Port Error: Check that your Max Pulse is switched on (green light inside the power button). Then check that all connections are tight. Then, without turning off the Max Pulse, just open and close the software. See if this clears the error. If it does not, Windows Defender may be blocking the software. Go To Windows Defender, Go to Device Security, then Memory Integrity and switch this option off. This should clear the error. You will need to reboot after this. You may also need to go to the Device Manager, go to Ports (COM & LTP) and reinstall the driver for the US Serial Port. Also go to Universal Serial Bus Controllers, bottom the list >USB Serial Converter and also reinstall the driver.
This information only apply to the most recent version of the software.
Other Issues: What were the circumstances when the machine quit working. Did you move the software to another computer? Was there an electrical storm that could have damaged the circuit board in the device? Contact us with this information and we will assist you to troubleshoot your device.
